AEW’s Mercedes Mone Pleads With Stardom’s Momo Watanabe To Return TBS Title

Mercedes Mone and Momo Watanabe Set for AEW TBS Championship Clash at Revolution

As the highly anticipated AEW Revolution pay-per-view approaches on March 9, the spotlight is firmly on Mercedes Mone and STARDOM’s Momo Watanabe. While AEW has yet to officially confirm the match, all signs point to Watanabe challenging Mone for the TBS Championship. However, an interesting twist has emerged—Mone is currently without her title belt. During the February 26 episode of “AEW Dynamite,” Mone fled a backstage confrontation with Watanabe, leaving her championship behind. Watanabe, along with ROH star Billie Starkz, took possession of the belt, adding further intrigue to their impending showdown. Mone has since taken to social media, pleading with Watanabe to return the title.

Momo Watanabe Earns Her Championship Opportunity

Watanabe secured her title shot by winning the prestigious International Women’s Cup at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5. Her journey to victory saw her defeat AEW’s Willow Nightingale, CMLL’s Persephone, and ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. This win granted her the right to challenge for any championship across AEW, ROH, NJPW, STARDOM, or CMLL. She made her decision clear at AEW’s Grand Slam Australia event on February 15, where she sat ringside as Mone successfully defended the TBS Championship against Harley Cameron. Watanabe’s challenge is driven by her desire to avenge her previous loss to Mone at NJPW’s Capital Collision event in August 2024.

Mercedes Mone Chasing AEW History

If Mone triumphs over Watanabe at Revolution, she will extend her successful title defenses to 15 since capturing the championship from Willow Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing 2024. Despite this impressive record, Mone still has a long road ahead to match the legendary reign of Jade Cargill, who held the TBS Championship for 508 days with 25 successful defenses between 2022 and 2023.

A Record-Breaking Achievement for Mone

Regardless of the outcome at Revolution, Mone is on the verge of making history in another promotion. By the time she steps into the ring on March 9, she will have officially surpassed Giulia’s record of 249 days to become the longest-reigning NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. This milestone solidifies Mone’s status as a dominant force in the wrestling world, showcasing her ability to thrive across multiple promotions.

High Stakes at AEW Revolution

With Watanabe’s determination and Mone’s championship legacy at stake, their match at AEW Revolution promises to be an intense and unforgettable battle. The question remains: Can Mone continue her dominant reign, or will Watanabe capitalize on her momentum to capture the TBS Championship? Fans will have to wait until March 9 to witness what could be a defining moment in AEW’s women’s division.
